I agree that If the subject is sensitive, it's inevitable the new words will come to have negative implications.

Put me firmly in the camp of those who prefer to adopt new words when the old words start carrying unintended meanings. To me, words have an intended purpose -- to communicate something. When they start communicating something other than as intended, it's time for a new word that doesn't carry the same baggage.
